Things are moving at a rapid pace in the home renovation area. It's a frustrating mix of excitement over seeing our ideas come to fruition and nausea over dealing with all the little details that come up each day. I found out yesterday afternoon that we had to have a tub installed today before they closed up the dormer or there would be no other way to get it into the house. So the plumber and I called around several dealers frantically and found one place that would meet with us today at 7:30am. We met with Missy the tub saleswoman and bought a tub but they couldn't deliver it. My father agreed to pick it up in the F-150. We left and 15 minutes later Missy called in a panic because all those tubs they had in stock were damaged so they were bringing one from Elizabeth City (over an hour away).
At lunch, Rich and I had to quickly pick out our tub faucet so they could install it with the tub. We bought that and our new toilet (which fit in the Mini Cooper Clubman!) and headed to the house to meet the contractor. We paid our second installment (another 5 digit check that makes my stomach hurt to write) and picked out our roof shingle color. Then it was back to the office.
My father waited around for the tub until 3pm and drove it out to the house for them to wrestle in the second story dormer. By 3:55pm the plumber was calling me because my father was arguing with the framers about a crooked wall. When I called him back at 4, all was resolved, but I don't look forward to any more mediations between my father and the people building our house.
I stopped by to take more "in progress" pictures this evening and last night I managed to get a video walk-through of the house before construction started uploaded. Feel free to wander around our house virtually. Just look out for stray nails.
